I am a first grade teacher at a Title I school in Gaffney, SC. I have several students whose parents work shift jobs that do not enable them to help their children with homework or read to them. Therefore, the time I spend with them in class is that much more precious. During our guided reading time, the students spend time in literacy centers while I work with a small group of students on reading skills. I would love to have a table where I could conference with 6-7 students at one time. I would also like to send home a reading bag with each child to assist parents with homework. The bags would include a pre-selected book (based on the student's interests) and a sheet containing suggested activities to extend the story. Please help us reach these children.
