My students need 7 adaptive cause and effect toys. Some of the toys the students helped to pick out are a crocodile, train, sheep, penguin race, a fan, and a vibrating musical dome.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a class for children with seven students ranging in age from 6-8. These children all have severe and profound mental and physical disabilities. Some of the students are non-ambulatory, non-verbal, and require maximum assistance from adults to complete simple tasks. These children show the most response and enthusiasm when presented with auditory and tactile stimulation.

Switch toys and adaptive equipment are costly. These items are also easily broken, over the years, after intense play by the children. Just a a typically developing child gets tired of playing with the same toys every day, so do the students in my class. We have a very limited selection of adaptive switch toys.

Having a larger selection of switch toys will help increase motivation for my students to work. Also, this will give a chance for the students to choose a toy, rather than be given the only toy we have. These toys will help to teach the students cause and effect and will also provide them with visual, tactile, and auditory stimulation during play activities.

You will make it possible for the students in my class to experience the simple pleasure of playing with toys. There will be toys appropriate for boys, girls, and a variety of ages. While these are motivating toys, they will also help in the educational process of teaching the students to learn cause and effect.
