My Title 1 sixth grade English classes are going to be learning about the lives of children in East Asia and will be raising money to help build schools, buy supplies, whatever they need, through OAmbassadors. We were selected to join OAmbassadors this year to help the fight against poverty and child labor across the world.

We need to start our fundraising, so we thought what better way than to have a "Stomp Out Poverty" button fundraiser. The students will be cutting out and drawing pictures of famous shoes, (i.e. ruby slippers, Jordans, etc.) and writing across the button "Stomp Out Poverty", creating awareness among the student body and staff of the school. That's where it all begins. Questions arise and then action takes place.

All we need to start the fundraising is the button machine and the replacement buttons. Being that our students are mostly from low income families, it gives them a chance to feel that they are helping other children. Since they can't give from their pockets, they can give in other ways. Empathy is a huge factor in building character education. Unfortunately, it is usually the forgotten "skill". They will learn to appreciate what they have and what they take for granted. At the same time, they can see where their efforts are going and the end result. These are very important years in a child's life. This is the time where empathy, if not taught in the classroom or home, tends to get lost in the mix of emotions and 'hormones', if you will. It is a critical time for these students.

By supplying this machine and buttons, you are allowing the students to join the campaign for "Freeing the Children". What better way than to have children 'free' other children. What a sense of empowerment it would give to them. Thanks so much for even considering us.
