  • Full STEM ahead!

    Funded Jun 10, 2019

STEM is our students' future. My students have embraced this, and are constantly finding new things to do with science, technology, engineering and math.

A corner of the room has been taken over by STEM. Our shelves have bins of activities and manipulatives ready for them to use. The students put together the planters and tanks that you provided, and turned around and found so many other things to adapt this to: they even planted dirt inside pumpkins to see the pumpkin seeds grow!

Thank you for providing these inspirations to our citizens of the future! They are having so much fun with them!”

    Ms. Cundiff

  • Building Our Library One Book at a Time

    Funded Sep 24, 2019

I have been so lucky that my students love to read!

This year, even though some of my kids are struggling, they have fallen in love with books. Because of donors like you I am able to furnish my library with books that intrigue all of my students. They love when I read to them. They love reading to each other. Most of all, they love to try out new books.

My library is slowly getting filled with a large variety of books. This, I think, is a good thing. At the same time, it's become a nuisance: they are constantly sneaking books out of the library to read when they are supposed to be listening to a lesson, or doing math work, or something else! I know this isn't ideal, but they are starting to relate their reading to their other school work.

With your donations I have been able to add math, science and Social studies to the regular ELA work where you usually find reading. I'm excited to get to our Habitat unit this next month since so many of my students have already read about some of the animals and their habitats in the books you helped provide.

Thank you for everything you have done to help my classroom.”

    Ms. Cundiff

  • LEGOS and Learning

    Funded May 21, 2019

My new students are SO excited to have Legos in our Classroom. It's the second day of school and they were thrilled with the first activity. Each of the students were paired with someone they didn't know and, sitting back to back, took turns describing the Lego sculpture they were making.

The first tries weren't successful as they were working on describing what they were doing. After a lot of giggles they caught on, and we had a lot of winners in the room.

When the first activity was completed, they couldn't believe that I gave them some free time to just explore. In a matter of minutes the Legos were distributed, and everyone was busy building. A few were busy making buildings, a couple of landscapers got busy with the plates, and some Lego people suddenly appeared. Clean-up time showed that my students understood that putting things away was an important part of having bricks in the room, and not one block was left out.

Thank you, Donors. I can't wait until math starts and we can begin using our blocks for fractions, adding and subtracting!”

    With gratitude,

  • Down-to-Earth Exercise and Movement!

    Funded Apr 18, 2019

It was hard, but I managed to keep our new parachute as a surprise! Thank you for all of your help with this project.

We have 4 "behavior" parties a year where the students need to earn behavior tickets (completing their classroom jobs, showing exemplary behavior to their friends, and many other situations), have a C or better in the grade books, and no missing assignments. It's hard, and we usually only have about 2/3 of our students attending. Knowing there was a surprise in store we had over 100 or our 110 students qualify for the party! They rotated to different teachers' rooms: one did tumbling, one taught juggling, another took her students out for a kickball game. My group was hidden around the corner so no one could see: a parachute! They had so much fun bouncing balls, chasing each other, and just making it blow in the wind. Their smiles were infectious (and I admit I joined in the fun and racing!) You gave them these smiles. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cundiff

  • Is It Back to School Already?

    Funded Mar 21, 2019

Thank you for helping us prepare for a new school year (I know...we aren't finished with this one yet!) At least two times a day (we had a day with 8 instances) someone drops their pencil box. Scattered over the floor are pencil shavings, itty-bitty mini pencils sharpened to the eraser, crayons and crayon wrappers, and behavior tickets.

We had a meeting, and the students figured out how to fix the problem: but it will benefit the incoming 3rd graders. They will store their pencils in toothbrush containers, and they can't use boxes anymore, but pouches. If the pouch can't be zipped, it needs to be cleaned out.

We also chose some folders for homework, as well as notebooks to be used in math, science, social studies and reading for interactive work.

Because of your generosity, my students have worked on becoming organized, and they are helping the younger student to become organized as well.

Thank you for being so amazing!”

    With gratitude,

  • What Should I Do in Center-Time?

    Funded Mar 13, 2019

Thank you! Those are words that just can't express what our students feel when they find a donors package waiting for them!

With your donation to "What Should I Do During Center Time", the students were able to use new task cards that were purchased from Teacher Pay Teacher. The talented teachers that create these activities also benefited from your generosity.

The cards we purchased were part of a review packet for state testing. Our students succeeded in testing because they had fun "playing" the different review activities you provided.

From all of our students: Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cundiff

  • Staying Private as We Test

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

Since testing is a part of our school system anymore, we need to do what we can to make sure our students have a chance to do their very best.

Thank you, donors, for helping our classroom. We were able to give our students a private place to do their testing while in a crowded classroom.

Sometimes our students just need to get away from everyone. By putting up a simple privacy screen they are able to complete their work and not worry about the people around them. Without donors like you we would have students who are struggling. Instead we have students who know that there are people who care about them, and who are on their side watching them succeed.

Thank you, donors, for all you do.”

  • Friends, Romans....Space!

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

Thank you for your amazing donation to help our students. We were able to add some wonderful activities to our study of Rome. The third graders were able to make some coins to use for trading in the Roman Market (using the clay). They used the cake cardboard to make their own Roman shields while we studied about roman soldiers and how Rome grew, and later fell. Donors like you make all the difference in our lessons. Being able to have a hands-on project helps create excitement in the classroom, and as a result, the students look forward to learning and remember what they have learned.

Gratias tibi: (the high school Latin students came in to share some more information about Rome with our students. Gratias tibi in Latin means "thank you!" Your generosity reached all the way to our senior high school students!)”

  • Students Make Great Teachers!

    Funded Oct 30, 2018

Thank you for helping my students with the PowerMyLearning family Engagement Innovators Program. Our families were able to see what their students were working on. the pictures that we assembled for our package show a project the students were doing at school, and then completing and sharing with their parents about Rome. The extra connection and review at home was indispensable as a learning tool, and has made a major difference in the work that the students were able to submit. Thank you, again, for making a difference in our classrooms.”

  • This, That and Keep on Reading

    Funded Jan 21, 2019

Because of donors like you, my students have become voracious readers! We have been reading books from many genres, both old and new. I introduced the students to Doctor Doolittle originally to read in small groups listening to the cd. reading. They began to beg to have the book over the speakers instead so that they didn't have to wait for their turn! They enjoyed the book, and became open to looking at the older classics instead of the same book series they had always checked out at the library! My struggling readers were captivated by the talking animals! Thank you, Donors, for making such a difference in my students' lives!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cundiff
