My Students

My kindergarten students often watch the rain and snow as it crawls over the mountains. They are fascinated by weather.

Over 50% of my students qualify for free and reduced meals.

They live in a rural, semi-agricultural area on the border of the Appalachian Mountains. Weather plays a vital role in my students daily lives. They have a natural curiosity about weather. Many of my students grow up hearing their parents discussing the weather as it pertains to farming. This information can make the difference in being able to successfully grow crops for income and/or food for the family.

My Project

I want to establish a weather station where my students can observe and investigate weather conditions. They will use the thermometer weather station and barometer to make observations and record information about the weather. They will use the weather chart to record their observations and information. The giant "pretend" thermometer will help my students learn how thermometers work to show us temperature. The floor puzzles will help them understand the correlation between temperature and different weather conditions.

The materials in the weather station will broaden my students' knowledge and understanding of what weather is and how it effects their lives.

This station will help them satisfy their curiosity about the science of weather.
