My kindergarten students attend a small rural public school on the border of the Appalachian Mountains. Almost 60% of my school's students receive free or reduced meals. They are enthusiastic and energetic lovers of music. All I have to do is break into song and they will find a way to join in the fun. These are children who live in a culture of music. In this part of the country music is used to tell stories and pass on history and the local culture.
