Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There are necessary tools for any job. A carpenter needs a measuring tape, wood, etc. A lawyer needs a legal pad, pen, etc. My students need a dictionary to help them discover a wider world of words. Please afford them the necessary tools to make new discoveries in the world of words.

My students are eighth graders at a public magnet school in California.

They are a lively, enthusiastic group who make the most of their circumstances. Our school's magnet focus is STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) which also incorporates design thinking. In my class, students are learning about U.S. History and English in a highly collaborative environment. Students in this class are learning to prepare for their futures as college-educated democratic citizens.

My Project

We need 80 dictionaries to provide not only a necessary tool for students in their pursuit of a broader vocabulary, but to help foster a classroom environment of autonomous learning. With the dictionaries, students will be able to research not only the meaning of words but also gain a deeper understanding of the word parts. Additionally, by putting this tool into the hands of my students, they will be taking greater ownership in their learning.

A donation to this project will provide students with a necessary tool to research the meaning of words and gain greater autonomy in their learning.
