Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow...

My students need project and art supplies, organization aids, and Macbeth guides for our upcoming unit on Shakespeare.

My Students

My students are all second-chance kids. They arrived at this program because they stopped attending an old school, got pregnant, became involved with drugs, gangs, or encountered violence at school and needed to get out.

Most of them are over-age for their grades and wouldn't be able to graduate without switching into an alternative program like this one.

We are not a dumping ground for "bad kids"; we are a challenging program with high admissions standards and high expectations of all our students. We keep the classrooms small (a maximum of 15 students, typically 10-12) and provide each student with as much personalized attention as they need to succeed.

My Project

Many of my students live in a dull, grey world in which all they are asked to do in school is listen, memorize, and then repeat what they have been told. While fact acquisition is a key component to all learning, students also learn by doing and expressing. In the past, I have taught Macbeth with projects like mock trials, movie-making (scene re-creation and interpretation), and group presentations. This year I would love to give my students more opportunities for creative and unique learning experiences with Shakespeare's tale of violence, corruption, and tragedy. Supplies like posterboard, construction paper, and organizers can help them create the materials for these projects, while the Macbeth guides and writing curriculum books will help me design a better and more interesting Shakespeare unit.

This is where, I hope, you come in.

Without your donation, we will not be able to supply these students with the materials they need for next year. Your donation, no matter how small, will go towards helping my students improve their critical reading skills, in addition to giving them a positive experience with Shakespeare( something they have not had very often in their other schools). I hope that this helps them in their quest to continue on to college.
