It's The Cycle Of Life

My students need a butterfly habitat, specimens of different butterflies, feeding station, live plants, and books about the life cycle of a butterfly.

My Students

We all experience change in different ways and I hope to show my students that "change" can be a good thing, especially when one goes from a gnarly caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly.

I teach second grade in a school that is in our third year of program improvement, where increasing test scores in reading and math is the priority.

It seems there is never enough funding to purchase new materials for any subject, much less science, in a district that is dealing with extreme budget cuts from our state.

My Project

Kids love to learn about science but we rarely have time to devote to this subject. When I do, I like to have quality, engaging materials available for them. My students benefit from seeing actual examples of the topics we learn about, especially my second-language learners and my visual learners. They can see first-hand an actual butterfly as it emerges from the chrysalis. Students can read about and actually see examples of other types of butterflies that exist in the world from the books and specimens I'm requesting in this proposal. Think about the wonder and excitement they'll experience as they come in each day and check to see if the butterflies have "hatched"!

It is only through the generosity of donors like you that this can become a reality for my deserving kids.
