Creating a Diverse and Literary-Rich Classroom

My students need posters, for a literacy-rich classroom that fosters intrinsic motivation, a diverse learning experience, and a positive environment.

My Students

As a first-year teacher, the walls in my classroom are not stocked with the supplies necessary to create a colorful, inviting atmosphere for students.

The majority of my students have grown up in the small, rural town in which my school resides.

Many have never traveled outside of our community. Despite their geographic isolation, my students dream big. Their lofty goals include that of being photo journalists, humanitarians, professionals in the medical field, artists, and veterinarians - lots of veterinarians. Many students are already working hard to develop their visions for themselves in the future. Other students, while they have great aspirations, stumble in taking the steps in the present that are necessary to achieve their goals in the future. Not only do my students vary in their goals, but they also vary in their academic capacity. My classrooms are filled with both Exceptional Children and Academically & Intellectually Gifted students. My lessons suit the needs of all of my students - and the physical atmosphere of the classroom should contribute to their wide range of needs as well.

My Project

First impressions are important. When my students enter my classroom, I want them to be encouraged to actively participate in learning, make responsible choices, and feel appreciated for their unique traits and contributions that they bring to the class. The posters I have selected through the Donors Choose organization celebrates multiple intelligences, commends students for stepping out as leaders, and offers advice and guidance for making good choices that will benefit them in and beyond the classroom. I want to create a classroom atmosphere that establishes appropriate interpersonal behavior, high personal motivation for students, and diversity through the intelligences that each student brings to the table. My vision for my classroom involves being rich in literacy - from our walls to our lessons, students should always be engaged with various methods of reading, relating, and interacting with literature. I thank you in advance for helping create this classroom for my students.

As a teacher, I engage with active learners by scaffolding and differentiating lessons in order to reach the wide range of ability and motivation held by each student individually.

It would be a powerful classroom tool to incorporate motivational messages and advice on the walls that would supplement my messages to the students. My students deserve a classroom that matches their aspirations and encourages them to succeed, while giving them practical advice for how to achieve their goals.
