Learning to read is like climbing a ladder. Just as ladder needs to have a strong foundation, students need a strong foundation when learning to read or they will continue to struggle. By providing a variety of reading activities, I hope to help create a strong foundation for my students.
I have the privilege of working with some fantastic first graders at a public school in Chicago.
My students are hardworking, kind, curious, and are always looking for new challenges. We have a ton of fun together! I constantly try to work in songs, dances, music, projects to make everyday a fun and valuable learning experience.
My Project
As a 1st grade teacher and Reading Specialist, I have learned the benefit of using a variety of approaches to teaching literacy. With these new supplies, I will be able to provide more valuable activities to help the students develop phonemic awareness and phonics. These materials will be used to provide small group and independent activities. The stamps and stamp pads will be helpful in allowing the children to identify beginning, middle and ending sounds. The sight word stamps will help the children recognize sight words. Using the play dough will allow the children to make words. These tools will be very helpful in the children's reading development.
Stamps you say,
Are really fun to play.
But they will can also help you teach,
Students that are hard to reach.
If you decide to give them play dough
You will be amazed at what they will know!
It is through your support and donations,
That students grow up and contribute to the nation!
