This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Making the jump from eye-catching picture books to challenging chapter books is a daunting task for most third graders.

Although my students are getting an education in the school with the highest poverty level in our state, these children are eager learners.

It is my goal to instill in their hearts a love of reading and to create life-long readers. These adorable children look forward to working on reading every day! I often can't help but walk around and take pictures of them sitting together enjoying a good book. Unfortunately, my stash of chapter books leaves much to be desired, so they often have to wait for days or even weeks to get their hands on a desired book that someone else is "hogging!"

My Project

Some of my students think that chapter books are long and boring. I would love to introduce them to mountains of chapter books in series with characters that make them smile, laugh, and have that special moment where they say, "Wait! Just one more chapter!" I have chosen 58 amazing, entertaining chapter books that they have already shown interest in when looking through catalogs. These books are also ones that I enjoyed as a child, and I look forward to the day that they will share them and their love of reading with their own children!
