Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is poor and under-served. Our population is predominantly African American and Hispanic children. We receive little to no financial support. Teacher's pay for everything out of pocket, including pencils. Our rug is old, worn, and gray. A beautiful reading area for inspiration is necessary.

My student's are eager, vibrant, children of African and Latino decent.

They come from a community that is one part of a whole rich diverse city. They love to learn about themselves and the culture of others. They love to be read to. They often share their own personal stories. We sit on the rug daily.

My Project

My students will feel appreciative and happy to learn that somebody took the time and the effort, not to mention the money to give them something they need. They'll learn that people can be generous and have a genuine desire to help other people in times of need. My students will listen to stories and be inspired to write and share their own stories on our new rug.

My hopes for this project is to help my young students learn the value of giving, without expecting something in return, something you can't always teach from a book.

I hope this will be a lifelong lesson for them.
