Science can be taught two ways, the boring old way or the fun hands-on way. I choose the second option for my students! Without creative supplies and hands-on lessons, it's hard to catch everyone's attention.
My students come from a high poverty area on the coast of South Carolina.
At school, they are your normal young adolescents; but outside of school, they face a hard life. These 7th and 8th graders have had it tough growing up, but the school is their safe haven. Inside these walls, they thrive and get all of the support that they need. Donating to my project and helping out these kids would mean more to them than you can even imagine.
My Project
In my 8th grade classes we are just beginning a unit on Astronomy and in my 7th grade classes we are starting Anatomy. These supplies will help students create bright and creative projects, graphic organizers for studying, and add to their interactive notebooks that have proven to make students more successful than using just a regular notebook. I think that students learn better by 'creating and doing' and that's just what I plan to have them do with just a little bit of your help.
These students are used to having less, so I think they should get more.
Being creative and making learning relevant and fun makes learning real for them. For all of their daily struggles, they deserve nothing but the best at school.
