My Students

Try to focus on what a student's abilities are, and not what their disabilities may be. All of the students I teach in Adapted Physical Education class have moderate to severe disabilities, which have a direct impact on their motor skills.

I teach Adapted Physical Education in the our school, which is located in Castro Valley, California.

Adapted PE class is a class for students who have disabilities. I serve 65 students with wide ranging disabilities: from visual impairments, to mental retardation, to autism. Most of my students are in Special Day Classes. I teach district wide, serving elementary to high school grades.

My Project

We need sports equipment including various balls, safe hockey and golf games, field hockey kit and more, which will enable students to have success in their Adapted Physical Education class. Although I try my best to adapt and modify with the General PE equipment, it would be nice to have some equipment which would make it easier for my students to be successful in learning motor skills. The equipment which I have selected will make it possible for these students to practice and learn all of the skills which General PE students work on, and in a fun and enjoyable way! With this equipments students will be able to develop the confidence to make exercise and sport a lifelong habit!

This project is important to all of my students because it provides them with equipment which is more likely to get them to have success.

Due to their disabilities, all of my students need some level of modified equipment. Although I usually use "regular" equipment, there is better equipment out on the market. The equipment I have selected is just that...It enable each of my students to be able to practice their skills without growing frustrated from not having success. Thank you so much!
