My Students

Help us take the next logical step in developing successful, cost-effective programs for the 21st Century.

We are a public, K-8 school in the heart of the city’s most traditionally under-served neighborhood with over 93% of students receiving one or more free meals per day.

We are in the 12th year of an intensive merging of the Arts into daily classroom education that has transformed our former SINI school (School in Need of Improvement) into our District's premier arts school, where we mentor others to achieve our successes.

My Project

We would like to make our library more pro-active and challenge our students to learn. To do that, this past year we developed a mobile Library Center complete with book racks on wheels and two mobile Listening Centers that can target classrooms in need. It has been a huge success. We would now like to make use of our school’s wireless capabilities by adding a netbook computer station to our mobile Library Center. Our 7th & 8th Grade students working on reading and writing assignments could do their research right in the classroom while other students receive one on one instruction. This would allow teachers to make the best use of student time and keep our students focused on their research projects. No longer would students have to wait for Library time to do their research. A Netbook computer would go a long way towards moving Library Services out of the square box (Library) and into the classroom.

Our school, like most elementary schools, has a single Library where classes can be brought to read, use the listening centers, or use the computers for research.

That was great for the last century, but if we are to create the next generation of literate adults we need to “reach out to them” and not just wait for them to “stop in”. Delivery of Library Services in a 20th Century model just doesn’t cut it anymore. We need to go further.
