My Students

Have you ever missed the perfect picture or video of your child because you didn't bring the camera with you because it was such a hassle to lug it around, keep up with it or recharge the battery after 10 minutes of recording? My students are ready to be the stars of their learning!

If you had the opportunity to meet the children of Room 20, you would consider yourself lucky.

The room is filled with 19 bright, inquisitive 1st and 2nd graders. These children are full of creativity, ambition and the zest for learning. Nestled in the hills of beautiful California my children attend a fabulous elementary school which faces a major budget deficit. However, this hasn't stopped us from wanting to become 21st Century learners. My students know that technology is their future and they want a safe learning environment to learn what is ahead for them. These hard working children shouldn't be stopped because of the state's budget problems. We've "flipped" for learning and now want to save these memories.

My Project

What better way to energize our daily curriculum than with a Flip Video Camera! Our daily book talks can come alive as we talk about books and their story elements. These videos can be used to help us see how we can improve in our book talks, as well as can be shared with other classes to introduce book recommendations. We can relive field trips as we show the video clips during our writing time to help inspire greater detail. Learning geography will take on a new meaning as we send video postcards to our "Flat Stanley" characters that are currently visiting friends and relatives around the world. Their world will easily become ours during our lesson. We will "Flip" over science experiments as we record our learning while we are doing them and then look back to create graphs and charts. We will even be able to watch an experiment over time! And best yet, our fabulous learning experiences can follow us home when they are downloaded onto our class website. What great dinner conversations!

From extending a field trip, to creating an authentic student portfolio, to helping children prepare for 21st Century learning-these are just a few reasons why the children in Room 20 need access to a Flip Camera.
