I am an elementary school music teacher in a high needs community. I am teaching strings, chorus, and general music, grades K-5. Children learn about other cultures and learn to sing in many different languages, including French, German, Dutch, Yiddish, Wolof (the language of Senegal), Chinese, Japanese. Also, some strings students have been accepted to the MAP program at Juilliard, and more will enter this year.

I have always believed in the importance of global consciousness--understanding the similarities and differences in all people over the world. As a singer and musician, my interest has long focused on World Music. I teach that subject at a SUNY college as well and have gathered much information over the years. I would like my students, who swell with pride at singing in other languages, to have the opportunity to experience both aurally and visually the people of the world and their music.

I need an LCD projector to work with my computer so that I can share this exciting journey with my children. The opportunities are endless, projecting maps, photographs, videos of different countries, local instrumentation, etc.

Your help will open the minds of these children and help them to understand other cultures in a personal way. It is my belief that this study is, in the long run, a big step toward peace.
