This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Please help my students express themselves through art! I teach art to kindergarten through fifth graders in southern Nevada. The school used to be Title 1, and the students used to qualify for free lunch, but those programs have been cut in order to meet the school district budget. Despite being socioeconomically disadvantaged, my students are bright, creative learners who love coming to school to learn.

Because of the budget cuts, we are in dire need of supplies. There simply isn't enough money to go around, especially to "frills" such as art supplies. I am obligated to teach painting (not to mention I love it and the students do, too) by Nevada state law, but we do not have enough paint. The students have shown much interest in learning how to mix different colors and about painting techniques. I would like to be bale to do painting projects that correspond with my students' interests.

We have the paper and brushes that we need, and all we need is the actual paint! I need tempera paints in primary and secondary colors, as well as some frequently used other colors so that our painting dreams can take flight. A gallon of each of the colors would make it possible for most of my students to make at least one painting that they can be proud of. They will learn about the science behind color theory through individual experimentation and group work, they will learn how to use charts and graphs, and they will learn about how colors relate to feelings.

Your help will ensure that my students get to complete the painting projects that they adore so much. I can't imagine what my elementary art experience would have been like without paint! These children really need and deserve to have enjoyable painting experiences in the art room. These experiences will help them in other subject areas as well, teach them different ways of communicating, and give my students pride and self-confidence.
