Weave a Web of Wonder While Reading Charlotte's Web

My students need 22 copies of "Charlotte's Web".

I teach a class of 20, mostly minority and low-income third graders, in a Title 1 school. Our student body receives almost 70% free and reduced lunch. Families do not have discretionary funds for even the most basic school supplies, and our district funding for materials has been slashed, also.

One of the core novels required for third grade is "Charlotte's Web." The current stack of books available to my students is a mis-matched, dog-eared, torn, worn, and stained group of paperback books. I would like a new set of "Charlotte's Web" books with which to teach this engaging novel.

My students do not have the opportunity to use state-of-the-art materials and new textbooks on a regular basis. It's almost like wearing hand-me-down clothes! When I present them with a book that has the pages falling out, covers bent and torn, with yellowed pages, they just won't have the initiative and yearning to read the novel as they would if it were new. Most children in my class read picture books at this age and reading this brand-new chapter book may just be the one that turns them on to a lifetime of reading!

Not only will your gift help this year's class, but reach many students for years to come! Please help foster the love of reading by presenting my class with brand new books!
