Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. For many of my students, school is more than a place to learn academics—it's where they learn to manage emotions, build resilience, and find a sense of belonging.

This project will help me create a calming corner and a peaceful classroom environment where students can regulate their emotions in healthy ways.

The calming corner will include sensory tools such as a jellyfish calming lamp, a desk fountain, fidget items, a weighted sloth plush, and a feelings pillow to help students identify and process their emotions. A poster set will provide visual reminders of coping strategies and emotional regulation skills, while a wax warmer with calming scents will help create a soothing atmosphere throughout the classroom.

Many of my students have significant social-emotional needs. When they become overwhelmed, anxious, frustrated, or simply need a quiet moment to reset, having a welcoming space can make all the difference. This calm corner won't be a place for punishment or isolation—it will be a safe space where students can recognize their feelings, practice self-regulation, and return to learning when they are ready.

By creating a classroom that consistently feels calm and inviting, I hope to give every student the message that all emotions are welcome and that they have the tools and support to work through them. When students feel emotionally safe, they are more confident, engaged, and prepared to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
