Novel Studies for Stronger Readers

Help me give my students engaging sets of novels to help them strengthen their reading comprehension, fluency, and literacy skills.

Ms. Loux Bethany Community School
Summerfield, NC Grades 6-8

My Project

After spending the last five years teaching mathematics, I am excited to begin a new role as a reading interventionist. Throughout my time in education, I have seen how strongly reading skills impact student success in every subject area. Students who struggle with reading often face challenges accessing grade-level content, participating in discussions, and demonstrating what they know. My goal is to provide targeted support that helps students become more confident, capable readers.

The novels requested through this project will allow students to engage in shared reading experiences while developing essential literacy skills.

The students will have opportunities to practice reading, participate in meaningful discussions, and build confidence to become successful readers.

Through guided reading, partner reading, independent practice, and small-group discussions, students will strengthen their reading comprehension, expand their vocabulary, improve oral reading fluency, and develop critical thinking skills. Having multiple copies of the same text will allow students to participate in meaningful novel studies where they can discuss themes, analyze characters, make connections, and practice evidence-based responses.

Many of the students I serve require additional support to close reading gaps and build confidence. Engaging novels provide an opportunity for students to experience success with texts that are accessible, relevant, and motivating. These shared reading experiences also help foster a positive reading culture where students can learn from one another and develop a greater appreciation for literature.

Your support will help provide the resources needed to create a literacy-rich learning environment where students can grow as readers and gain skills that will benefit them across all academic areas. By investing in these novels, you are helping students build the comprehension, fluency, and confidence necessary for lifelong learning and success.
