Wait...Your Classroom Has a LEGO Lab?

Help me give my students the tools to create, maintain, and organize a LEGO lab within the STEM classroom

My Project

The STEM Elective Classroom has grown exponentially at our school in the last few years. Our students have a particular interest in using LEGO blocks in developing project-based learning ideas in science and engineering and often choose them over any other building materials. LEGO blocks are a staple in my classroom, being used by all ability and grade levels to complete projects such as the landmark challenge, stop-motion animation, and robotics designs. Using LEGO blocks helps students to develop their collaboration and problem-solving skills, but also helps students engage in fine-motor skills that are not being utilized with an electronic device. The storage and accessibility to these materials is often a challenge, with so many using the materials for different tasks. Additions of donated LEGO blocks and yearly set replacements make it difficult to organize materials properly.

The addition of the tool chest, drawer storage, and LEGO sets will help to encourage students to become more independent to complete more complicated, thought-provoking projects within the classroom environment, and also help to expand our robotics and science competition teams.

LEGO building and the ability to encourage "out of the box" thinking is essential for the STEM classroom to be successful. These materials will promote the continuation of our yearly classroom LEGO curriculum, expand the possibilities of what can be done in the future with LEGO projects (i.e. robotics, animation), and provide the ability to manage a material for a large student body.
