School counselors play a vital role in educating all our students. Their efforts assist all students by promoting a safe and positive school climate through character education and anti-bullying initiatives. Moreover, school counselors are instrumental in helping the many high-risk students who come to school with emotional, behavioral, and social challenges that compromise their ability to succeed academically. However, when funding is tight, school counselors are among the first staff to be cut; and rarely are educational funds used to provide materials for their school-wide initiatives, classroom curriculum, or individual and small group counseling programs.
