My Project

In my self-contained special education classroom, I serve students in grades 3–5 with diverse learning needs, including autism and other developmental differences. One of my students has a significant visual impairment that makes it difficult to access grade-level content, digital materials, and independent work.

This project will provide essential visual support tools that will allow my student to more fully access instruction, participate independently, and engage with classroom activities alongside peers.

These resources will not only support academic growth but also foster confidence, independence, and inclusion.

Students with visual impairments often face barriers that go beyond simply “seeing the board.” Accessing Chromebooks, reading printed text, and participating in whole-group instruction can be overwhelming without proper supports. In my classroom, we rely heavily on digital learning platforms, small group instruction, and visual materials. Without adaptive tools, my student must depend heavily on adult assistance, which limits independence and slows learning progress.

Screen Magnifier & Monitor: These will enlarge digital content from the student’s Chromebook, making lessons, assignments, and reading materials more visible and accessible.

Rolling TV Stand: This allows flexibility to position the screen at the optimal height and distance, ensuring comfort and visibility during instruction.

LED Page Magnifier: Supports reading of books, worksheets, and printed materials with adjustable lighting to reduce eye strain.

Large Print Keyboard: Helps the student independently type and navigate digital assignments with greater accuracy.

Mouse & USB Hub: Improves navigation and usability of the Chromebook and connected devices.

Together, these tools will create an accessible workstation tailored to my student’s needs, promoting independence and reducing frustration.

With these supports in place, my student will be able to:

Access digital and printed materials independently

Participate more actively in whole-group and small-group instruction

Improve reading, writing, and technology skills

Build confidence and reduce reliance on constant adult assistance
