My Project

There is a moment I want every one of my students to experience before they leave my class: closing the back cover of a novel, looking up, and realizing, “I did it. I read the whole book.” For many readers, that moment seems ordinary. For my students, it can be an unforgettable victory.

Every student deserves to hold the same book, enter the same story, and have a voice in the same conversation.

Classroom sets of award-winning novels such as The Hunger Games, Holes, and Number the Stars will make that possible.

My students receive specialized reading instruction, and many have spent years facing texts that felt frustrating or out of reach. When their interests are more mature than their reading levels, the available materials can make them feel younger or different from their peers. These novels offer what they deserve: suspenseful, meaningful, age-respectful stories they can access without stigma.

Through guided notes, audio support, chunked chapters, and repeated practice, students will strengthen comprehension, vocabulary, reading stamina, literary analysis, and evidence-based writing. In a world of 30-second videos and endless scrolling, following one story from beginning to end also builds patience and perseverance. Each finished novel will prove that they can understand complex ideas and accomplish something that once felt impossible.

This impact will continue far beyond one class or school year. These books will become a lasting part of our curriculum, building new readers year after year.
