My Project

My students are inherently curious, innovative, and eager to tackle complex challenges, but many have never pictured themselves as computer scientists. Teaching at a school with a 70% female student body gives me the incredible privilege to help shift that narrative and inspire the next generation of women in tech.

Over the summer, I attended a conference where a researcher shared a powerful insight: "You could vomit pink glitter all over your computer science room and the boys would still feel right at home." Society constantly sends subtle signals that technology belongs to boys.

Adding vibrant, welcoming touches doesn't deter male students, but it powerfully invites in young women who might otherwise feel they don't belong in STEM.

With this project, every roll of pink bulletin board paper, hanging pink paper lantern, pink decoration, and pack of pink push pins will transform our cold computer lab into a warm, joyful sanctuary. The pink bulletin paper and lanterns will soften the harsh fluorescent lighting and brighten the walls, while the matching push pins and decor allow us to showcase student code and achievements in style. These resources will lower anxiety around intimidating technical concepts, spark creativity, and instantly signal to my students that this space was built specifically for them to thrive, code, and lead.
