My Project

For generations, Homer's The Odyssey has challenged readers to consider what it means to be courageous, resilient, and truly human. As one of the foundational works of Western literature, it continues to influence countless novels, films, and works of art. My Honors English students deserve the opportunity to experience this timeless epic through a text that is engaging, accessible, and designed for close literary study.

I am requesting a class set of an illustrated, annotated edition of The Odyssey so that every student has their own copy to read, annotate, and analyze throughout our unit.

The modern English translation, helpful annotations, and illustrations make this complex work approachable without sacrificing its literary richness. Students will be able to focus on Homer's themes, characterization, symbolism, and epic conventions while building confidence as readers of challenging texts.

With your support, my students will gain access to a resource that will deepen their appreciation for literature while developing the analytical, writing, and critical thinking skills they will carry into college and beyond. Additionally, providing students with a printed text encourages focused reading, thoughtful annotation, and meaningful engagement without the distractions of a screen.

Students will use these books daily for reading, discussion, literary analysis, and evidence-based writing. Having their own copy allows students to highlight key passages, track themes and literary devices, and gather textual evidence for essays and class discussions.

My Honors English students are curious, motivated learners who enjoy exploring challenging literature through discussion, analysis, and writing. They are developing the close reading and critical thinking skills needed for advanced coursework, and having access to high-quality classroom texts ensures every student can fully engage with the learning experience.
