This project not only provided nourishment, which is essential for young minds, but it provided the materials needed for students to be able to practice and prepare for their IB examinations. These exams are extensive and challenging. The ability to practice for them increases their likelihood of performing well on them, and it also makes them more comfortable during the exams themselves. Additionally, the whiteboard materials increased student participation in class discussions because they could collaborate in smaller groups, which is more comfortable for many students, before taking the risk of sharing out loud to the larger class audience. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the boxes of materials coming in, they were surprised and excited. They were especially thankful for the snacks. Teenage minds and bodies are growing and need nourishment. They were grateful someone cared enough to help provide that to them. They were also really thankful for the Kleenex. It is so much gentler on their skin than what the school district provides, and this winter was a particularly rough flu/sickness season. \r\n\r\nMy students take their IB exams next week. We have practiced and prepared up to the final days. It is up to them now. Thank you for your support, for your kindness, and for your commitment to education. It has meant everything to me and my students.","fullyFundedDate":1763159174919,"projectUrl":"project/put-it-into-practice/9493777/","projectTitle":"Put It Into Practice.","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Meek","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9136646"},{"teacherId":9740268,"projectId":9170939,"letterContent":"The fully funded IPad for inclusive learning has inspired many students. My students were very excited to open up the new mineral kits. They helped me unpack and organize all our supplies in the \"rock room\". \r\nWhen they saw our new hand samples they were amazed at how different they looked from the 40 year old samples we had been working with. It allowed them to see the properties of minerals easier and I feel helped them succeed to a higher level. \r\nWe complete 4 sets of rock/mineral labs throughout the school year after we learn our diagnostic tests. \r\nHaving complete sets of mineral kits alone was amazing. I was able to show students exactly what we were talking about in our notes and readings. Instead of me just asking them to trust my knowledge they got to discover it on their own. This created a much stronger connection and a better learning experience. \r\nI even had students from previous years come in and tell me how jealous they were of the new samples that had arrived. \r\nThank you again for your help in making my class come alive (even if rocks are dead)!","fullyFundedDate":1711020607889,"projectUrl":"project/geology-of-alaska-hands-on-experience/8143909/","projectTitle":"Geology of Alaska: Hands-on Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hendricks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9431329_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x228,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1704935034212","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9431329"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74310","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1768,"numTeachers":84,"percentFrplEligible":49,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":33,"percentIndigenous":9,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":10,"percentMultiracialImputed":13,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"21.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":74310,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alaska/anchorage-school-district/west-high-school/74310"}
