My students were very excited to open up the new mineral kits. They helped me unpack and organize all our supplies in the \"rock room\". \r\nWhen they saw our new hand samples they were amazed at how different they looked from the 40 year old samples we had been working with. It allowed them to see the properties of minerals easier and I feel helped them succeed to a higher level. \r\nWe complete 4 sets of rock/mineral labs throughout the school year after we learn our diagnostic tests. \r\nHaving complete sets of mineral kits alone was amazing. I was able to show students exactly what we were talking about in our notes and readings. Instead of me just asking them to trust my knowledge they got to discover it on their own. This created a much stronger connection and a better learning experience. \r\nI even had students from previous years come in and tell me how jealous they were of the new samples that had arrived. \r\nThank you again for your help in making my class come alive (even if rocks are dead)!","fullyFundedDate":1711020607889,"projectUrl":"project/geology-of-alaska-hands-on-experience/8143909/","projectTitle":"Geology of Alaska: Hands-on Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hendricks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9431329_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x228,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1704935034212","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9431329"},{"teacherId":9136646,"projectId":8587311,"letterContent":"Your donations to my classroom this year meant so much to me and my students. As seniors, they often don't get to enjoy new materials. Being able to have brand new books to help them prepare and study for their IB exam undoubtedly helped in their preparedness and success in the class and on their test. The book The Cold War is a well respected and renowned teaching of the complexities of this major historical moment. It provides students a balanced perspective on how the United States and Soviet Union contributed to the causes and impacts of the long, drawn out conflict between the superpowers. It also takes the approach that there were no winners and challenges traditional understandings of events. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, having the extra resource books for the other units/topics taught, as well as board game and prizes to help build classroom community, elevated my students' senior-year experience in our history class. When the materials arrived the students could see how much it meant to me and it in-turn had a profound impact on them - knowing strangers cared about their education, learning experience, and their teacher.","fullyFundedDate":1732908685091,"projectUrl":"project/study-play-success/8587311/","projectTitle":"Study + Play = Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Meek","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9136646"},{"teacherId":9740268,"projectId":8851052,"letterContent":"I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for your support in bringing *Ready Player One* into our classroom. This novel has completely transformed the way my students engage with reading. Many of them, who were previously reluctant readers, are now eagerly turning pages, discussing themes, and making connections to their own experiences with technology and virtual worlds. \r\n\r\nThrough this book, my students are developing critical thinking and analytical skills as they explore topics like digital identity, the impact of technology on society, and the importance of perseverance. Our classroom discussions have been lively, with students debating ethical dilemmas in the story and even drawing parallels to current advancements in virtual reality. One student, who rarely participated before, now stays after class to discuss the book's hidden references and how they relate to real-world history and pop culture. Seeing their excitement and confidence grow has been truly inspiring. \r\n\r\nThank you for making this experience possible.
