Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A shared discovery can spark a conversation, an outstretched hand, or a first moment of playing alongside a classmate. For self-contained students and students in social communication classrooms across PK–8, those moments matter. These students bring varied interests, strengths, and ways of communicating, and the ESE team is committed to creating opportunities for each learner to participate.

An adjustable exploration table will become a shared learning station in the school’s outdoor sensory enrichment space.

One day, its large tray might hold sand for scooping, measuring, and tracing. Another day, it could host water investigations, nature discoveries, sorting challenges, or collaborative building activities. This flexibility will allow staff to offer age-respectful experiences that reflect students’ interests while accommodating different sensory preferences and support needs.

The stand and tray form the exploration table, with an adjustable height for different student groups. Play sand and a collection of sand and water tools will invite students to pour, transfer, compare, and experiment while developing coordination and problem-solving skills. A cover will help protect the tray between activities.

Learning at this table will extend beyond the materials inside it. With staff support, students can practice choosing an activity, requesting a tool, sharing space, and taking turns through speech, gestures, pictures, or communication devices.

This exploration table will give the ESE team a reusable resource with countless possibilities, as well as give students more ways to discover, participate, and connect.
