Engineering Our Children's Future: Fueling Our 3D Design Lab

Help me give my students the assorted colors of filament they need to use with our 3D printer.

Mr. B. Mooresburg Elementary School
Mooresburg, TN Grades 3-5

My Project

In our elementary STEM classroom, we are going to transform students from passive consumers of technology into active creators and engineers. Our 3D printing station will serve as the heart of our makerspace, where students engage in the full engineering design process. They will 3D print STEM kits that can be used as interactive projects to learn from. We can print everything from engineering kits to plant and animals cells every student can learn from. They will identify real-world problems, brainstorm structural solutions, draft designs, and—most importantly learn through failures to refine their prototypes. This hands-on experience builds essential skills in spatial reasoning, critical thinking, and computational logic.

However, the ability to turn a digital model into a physical prototype depends entirely on a consistent supply of filament.

Filament is the literal building block of our engineering projects. Having a variety of materials on hand is not just about aesthetics; it allows our students to color-code components for complex assemblies, differentiate between moving parts, and create multi-material prototypes that test structural integrity and functional design. When our machines run out of material, the engineering cycle comes to a halt, leaving brilliant designs trapped on the screen.

Your support will provide the necessary fuel to keep our printers running and our students’ ideas moving forward. By funding this project, you are providing the raw materials needed for our young innovators to explore concepts like material properties, structural support, and geometric precision. Thank you for helping us equip the next generation of engineers with the tools they need to bring their creative solutions to life.
