My Project

In my second-grade classroom, every child has a unique story to tell. My students are eager to read, write, draw, and share their ideas, and they are developing the foundational literacy skills that will support them for years to come. This project will provide sketchbooks, crayons, paint, and colored pencils that students will use daily to explore both fiction and nonfiction through interactive storytelling tasks and authentic writing experiences.

Students will read engaging mentor texts that spark creativity to tell imaginative stories as well as informational stories about animals, science, history, and the world around them.

As they read fiction and nonfiction texts, they will learn how authors entertain, inform, and inspire readers. Using their sketchbooks, students will brainstorm ideas, create story maps, sketch characters, illustrate nonfiction concepts, and organize their thinking before telling their own stories.

These materials will become personal writing journals where students can draft narratives, write informational pieces, revise their work, and publish stories they are proud to share with classmates and families. The simple act of sketching before writing helps young learners build confidence, develop vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, and express their ideas more clearly. Pencils are an essential classroom tool that students use throughout every stage of the writing process, from planning and drafting to editing and publishing. The Post It Charts will encourage collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking while making storytelling enjoyable and meaningful.

Your support will give every student the opportunity to become both an author and an illustrator. By investing in these art and writing supplies, you are helping young learners discover the joy of storytelling, strengthen their literacy skills, and build the confidence to share their voices with the world.
