Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms, we are working hard to build a community where every student feels safe and regulated. However, for many young learners, the traditional classroom setting can sometimes feel overwhelming. I am requesting a SandLock Sandbox with Vinyl Sandbox Cover and Ground Barrier to create a dedicated "Peace Place" where the students can practice essential Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) skills. A sandbox is more than just a toy; it is a laboratory for social interaction and a vital bridge to accessibility.

For students with sensory processing disorders, autism, or physical disabilities, a sand table provides a low-pressure environment where they can thrive.

Unlike loud or fast-paced classroom activities, the predictable, grounding texture of sand offers a "sensory anchor." It helps neurodivergent learners filter out background noise and focus on the present moment, making it much easier to transition back to group lessons. When students gather around the sand table, they aren't just playing—they are practicing negotiation and conflict resolution as they share tools and space. The tactile experience of sifting through sand provides a powerful calming effect, helping students regulate their emotions when they feel anxious or frustrated.

With your support, this sandbox will help the students Practice Empathy: By working together on collaborative builds, like sandcastles or landscapes. Build Self-Regulation: By providing a sensory "reset" when they feel overwhelmed by big feelings. Enhance Communication: By using descriptive language and storytelling to share their creations with peers. Promote Inclusion: By providing a social hub where students of all ability levels can interact on equal footing, removing barriers to play. Your donation will provide a tangible space for my students to grow into more confident, regulated, and compassionate individuals. Thank you for helping us build a foundation for success, one scoop at a time!
