Help me give my students access to essential hygiene supplies, including deodorant, hygiene wipes, toothbrushes, and toothpaste, so they can feel clean, confident, comfortable, and ready to learn throughout the school day.

My Project

My students come to PE each day ready to move, work, and challenge themselves. Our classes include middle school boys in physical education and weightlifting, with students participating at different times throughout the school day. Some begin their day with PE, while others come after already spending hours moving between classes and activities. No matter when they arrive, they are expected to participate, work hard, and return to their academic classes ready to learn.

This project will provide essential personal-care supplies for our boys’ locker room, including deodorant, hygiene wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other everyday hygiene necessities students may not always have access to during the school day.

These supplies will be available not only to students in PE and weightlifting, but also to student-athletes before and after practices, students before or after class, and other students throughout the building who may need basic hygiene items. Students will not have to be enrolled in PE or participate in athletics to receive help.

Middle school students are increasingly aware of their appearance, hygiene, and how they feel around their peers. A lack of basic hygiene supplies can affect confidence, comfort, participation, and focus. Having access to deodorant, wipes, or a toothbrush can help a student feel more prepared to return to class and concentrate on learning.

By creating an accessible hygiene and supply area, we can help students build healthy habits, remove distractions, and support their confidence and dignity. The goal of Beyond the Locker Room is to provide a dependable resource that helps students feel clean, comfortable, supported, and ready to learn.
