My Project

As a school counselor, I want every student who walks through our doors to have the opportunity to learn, focus, and feel cared for. One barrier that can significantly impact a student's school day is hunger.

Our school serves students in grades 7–12, and some students arrive at school without having eaten breakfast or need a snack between breakfast and lunch.

When students are hungry, it can be difficult to concentrate, participate in class, and feel comfortable throughout the day.

I would like to create a Counselor’s Snack Bin in my counseling office stocked with nutritious, student-friendly, individually packaged snacks. This resource will be available to students who arrive hungry, need something before lunch, or simply need extra fuel to make it through the school day.

The goal is to provide snacks in a way that is accessible, discreet, and free from stigma. Students will be able to visit the counseling office, choose a snack, and return to class without feeling embarrassed or having to explain their circumstances. We will provide a variety of options, including nut-free and allergy-conscious choices whenever possible.

We are also requesting storage and organizational supplies to create a clean, welcoming, and easily accessible snack station. Having proper storage will help keep snacks organized, sanitary, and easy to restock throughout the school year.

This project is about more than providing food. It is about helping students feel supported and ensuring hunger does not become another barrier to learning. By providing both snacks and an organized storage system, we can create a dependable resource that helps students focus, participate, and succeed throughout the school year.
