This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the pleasure of teaching a vibrant, curious, and energetic group of first graders. Our classroom is a buzzing community of learners who are just beginning to unlock the magic of reading. They bring a unique blend of resilience, creativity, and eagerness to our daily lessons. In first grade, we are moving from learning to read to reading to learn. However, holding large, heavy books while trying to point to words, turn pages, and keep 20 students engaged is a physical challenge that often distracts from the learning experience. My students need a way to see the text clearly and participate in interactive shared reading.

This sturdy, mobile big book stand will transform our daily literacy instruction from a struggle to a joyous, shared experience!

With this big book stand, I will be able to:

-Improve Visibility: Every student, no matter where they are sitting, will be able to see the text and illustrations clearly.

-Enhance Interactive Reading: Students can come up to the stand to point out sight words, rhyming words, and punctuation, strengthening their foundational reading skills.

-Model Fluency: I can hold large-format books easily, allowing me to focus on expression and decoding, rather than trying to balance the book.
