My Project

My classroom is a vibrant, self-contained learning environment for students diagnosed with autism. Each student is unique, with strengths ranging from creativity and curiosity to pattern recognition and problem-solving.

My students show up every day ready to learn, communicate, and connect with the world around them.

Our goal is to provide them with tools that match their potential and help them thrive both academically and socially. An iPad in our classroom would be a game-changer. With its user-friendly interface, accessibility features, and wide range of educational and communication apps, the Apple iPad with A16 chip will serve as a powerful tool to support: Communication: Apps like Proloquo2Go and TouchChat empower non-verbal students to express their needs, wants, and ideas. Academic Engagement: Interactive learning apps aligned with IEP goals make lessons more accessible and engaging across reading, math, and life skills.

Behavioral Support: Visual schedules, timers, and sensory regulation tools available on the iPad help manage transitions and reduce anxiety. Social-Emotional Growth: Social stories and video modeling apps provide guidance in social situations and emotional expression. This iPad will be integrated into daily instruction, therapy sessions, and independent work stations, ensuring it directly enhances student learning and growth.

Many of our students face communication barriers that can lead to frustration or disengagement. With the iPad, students who struggle to speak can have a voice. Those who need visual cues or hands-on interaction to learn can access tools that meet them where they are.

The iPad will also allow us to document student progress through apps that track goals and development—critical for IEP meetings and collaboration with families and therapists.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
