My Project

This project uses a popcorn machine as a motivational tool in speech-language therapy, while applying basic engineering concepts such as systems, structure, and improvement through data. The popcorn machine will be used as a controlled reward that students earn by completing speech and language tasks.

A end-of-year popcorn party will follow a simple system: student responses (input), clinician decision-making (process), and popcorn as a reward (output).

Basic engineering concepts such as designing, testing, and improving a system will be introduced in an age-appropriate way. Data will be collected on student performance and engagement, and the system will be adjusted over time to find what works best.

The goal of this project is to increase student engagement and support better speech and language outcomes, especially for students who need extra motivation. It also demonstrates how everyday tools can be used in structured, thoughtful ways that reflect real-world problem-solving and engineering practices.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
