Using the totes to cultivate plants has presented unique challenges that have encouraged students to think critically, design solutions, and experiment with different approaches. They adjust soil, water, and light conditions to help plants thrive, learning from mistakes and refining their strategies along the way. These experiences not only teach essential STEM concepts but also foster perseverance, creativity, and collaboration among students.\r\n\r\nThe totes have become more than just containers for plants—they are tools for exploration and discovery. Students work together to plan experiments, monitor plant growth, and discuss what works and what needs improvement. This hands-on approach encourages curiosity, engagement, and a deeper understanding of the natural world. It has been exciting to see students develop engineering and problem-solving skills while actively participating in projects that are both challenging and rewarding.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has truly enhanced our classroom and provided opportunities for students to learn in dynamic, meaningful ways. And they loved it! I had them work with a partner to follow the directions and build a wind turbine from the kit provided. They worked together, which is also a valuable skill, and had to follow specific instructions for their wind turbine to actually work. But what was even better, is after testing their turbine with a fan, they developed their own changes for positioning of the blades and stability of the base for making it work even better. I need to find more fans or hair dryers and more multimeter test kits to measure the voltage and then compare which ideas worked the best. This was truly an amazing lesson, which I wasn't even sure would work out.\r\nAfter this lesson, we'll follow up by researching actual wind turbines in our area and determine how they are designed and placed to get the most wind velocity and produce the most energy. This project is perfect for connecting to a real world example that we see everyday right in our town. I hope to connect with a company to get an actual tour of a wind farm. This kit for building wind turbines has opened up so many ideas and projects that the students are interested in, this will definitely be an annual project!\r\nThank you again, we couldn't have done this without your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1757881184125,"projectUrl":"project/wind-turbines-wind-energy/9376163/","projectTitle":"Wind Turbines = Wind Energy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bechtel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1570592"},{"teacherId":1570592,"projectId":9376083,"letterContent":"This game was a lot of fun! STEM Skillastics incorporated physical education with STEM topics and got students active, thinking and working together to win the game. I needed to combine a few classes to get enough students at this school, as well as schedule a time when we could use the gym, but it was worth it. The students ranged in age from 3rd to 6th grade and I split them up so each grade was on each team. They had to work together and take turns running to the mat, rolling the dice and moving their piece, sharing with their team what physical activity they needed to do, and then answer a question about science, technology, engineering or math. Then the next person had their turn. The first team that circled the mat won the game. I was so impressed with how well they worked together, encouraged each other, helped each other and genuinely cheered each other on. I look forward to using this game with my other schools, but for some I'll need to wait until warmer weather to go outside.\r\nThank you so much for helping fund this activity for me to share with my students, it was fun and they were active and learning at the same time.
