We just started working on the children's books last week and so far the students are loving them! It's great that they are able to have such high quality products to display create their stories with; something that wouldn't be possible without your donation. \r\nBefore students get into writing their own children's stories, we take a look at some examples of published children's books. Most high schoolers don't usually write for such a young audience so it's always a learning curve the first few days of the unit! We talk about things like using appropriate vocabulary for young readers and making sure to fill every page with colorful illustrations. \r\nOnce students receive their new blank books they usually write out their story first. This year some of our stories include: a tortoise who always hides in his shell but eventually learns to make new friends, the story of the colors of the rainbow, and some farm animals that start a band! This unit is always a student favorite, made even more special by the donated books.
