The soft gray color makes our space feel more like home, helping students relax and focus throughout the day.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest hits, though, has been our collection of mini stuffed animals. During reading time, each student gets to pick a small reading buddy to join them. It's amazing how such a simple addition can spark so much excitement — students can't wait to choose a new stuffed animal each week! They settle in with their reading buddies, curl up with a good book, and read with focus and joy.\r\n\r\nThese reading buddies have helped create a sense of ownership and comfort during independent reading. Students who were once hesitant readers are now eager to start reading time, and the room fills with calm energy and happy chatter about which animal they'll choose next.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us build a classroom that feels safe, joyful, and full of heart. They are being used in our groups with grades K, 1, and 2. Some of these readers, even in 2nd grade, are practicing CVC words (like log, jet, top). These letters and blocks make it easier for students to understand that vowels are in each word. \r\n\r\nThe blocks also help students sound out words, and identify words because each package (we have 10) contain the blocks to put the letters onto, with the vowels permanently in the middle (so 5 blocks) and letter tiles made of sturdy wood to make words. The student can look at a picture card or the word (i.e. a picture of a jet with the word jet on the back side) and make the word, then sound it out.\r\n\r\nStudents love the pictures, they have fun manipulating the blocks, and they enjoy sharing what they make with others.
