Every week we rotate who gets to use them. I have found the students love to use them to move a little while completing their work. This elevated our classroom community having these as an option. My students were SO excited to see huge boxes be delivered to the classroom. They were eager to see what was in them and were not disappointed when I pulled them out. \r\n\r\nI have found that my students who need to be on the move to be successful have made tremendous growths with work ethic, getting projects done, and doing them well. They are able to sit comfortably and work to their ability. They are no longer getting up to look out the window, get a drink, get their sweatshirt when they truly don't need/want to do them- they simply just wanted to move! Now, when a student walks in overwhelmed, I can offer a quick snack while we talk. It has become part of our calm-down routine. I have seen students visibly relax after having something small to eat, and they are much more able to focus on problem solving, coping skills, or returning to class ready to learn.\r\n\r\nWhen the snacks first arrived, the students were so excited. A few of them said, \"Are these really for us?\" It was such a simple moment, but it meant a lot. For some students, knowing there is something reliable and consistent available helps them feel safe and cared for. We use the snacks during small group sessions and sometimes just to bridge that gap when lunch feels far away.\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue using these snacks to support our friendship groups, coping skills lessons, and academic check-ins. One of our favorite activities has been our \"Letter Exploration Bins.\" Each bin is filled with objects that begin with a specific letter, and the children take turns sorting, naming, and matching items. It has been amazing to see how naturally they begin making letter-sound connections through play.\r\nWhen we first opened the boxes, the students' reactions were priceless. Several children cheered, some clapped, and a few crowded around the table saying, \"Look! Letters!\" They were eager to touch, try, and explore every new item. For many of them, having hands-on materials makes learning feel comforting, exciting, and accessible. Their engagement and independence during centers have grown so much because the new tools allow them to practice early literacy skills in a playful, developmentally appropriate way.\r\nOver the next few weeks, we will continue working through our alphabet sequence using these resources. Not only were they able to up close with nature, but they practiced sharing, patience, manners, and kindness. At this age, there is a lesson in every experience!\r\nThe students were also able to use the magnification tools and look at nature up close with those materials. The excitement when they saw a human fingerprint was so joyful!
