Flexible seating when done right, is a game changer! I used to spend an hour every week trying to move students around so they wouldn't be next to other students. With flexible seating, two key things change that allowed me to not have to make seating plans ever again!\r\n\r\nFirstly, it gave them seating that allowed them to move in a respectful and responsible manner, without interrupting other student's learning. Students could pick from a variety of types of seats, to find the ones that worked best for their learning.\r\n\r\nSecondly, I set up a system that they couldn't sit in the same table set up or by the same people two days in a row. This encouraged them to have to learn to sit next to new people and problem solve. They could pick who they sat next to (a good fit learning partner), as long as they didn't interrupt others' learning. If they did interrupt others learning, we'd have a conversation. If they still couldn't make it work, then I would get to pick for the rest of the day. The next day, we had a discussion about what would make a good spot. Students rose to the occasion and created a better classroom environment.\r\n\r\nThanks again!","fullyFundedDate":1613055938034,"projectUrl":"project/fresh-flexible-seating/5349929/","projectTitle":"Fresh Flexible Seating","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gerl","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4633895_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1502401203938","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4633895"},{"teacherId":9595743,"projectId":8501535,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to my project! The students at Jefferson have been enjoying the Equitable Lending Library in many different areas of our school.\r\nUntil we have our permanent spot for our Lending Library ready, we have been using a portable cart that can be used in classrooms, at specials, during indoor recess and at our after school program. Our dream is to have it set up outside, under a tree by our Buddy Bench.\r\nStudents have been enjoying books where they see themselves in the stories. This helps them feel seen, validated and connected to the story, fostering a sense of belonging and identity. This allows them to relate to the characters on a deeper level by reflecting their own experiences. This is important for students who might not see themselves represented in literature.\r\nWithout your support this fun, accessible library would not be possible.
