My school is located in an urban setting with over 60% of our students coming from families that qualify for free and reduced lunch prices. Our school has a heavy emphasis on creating lifelong learners who contribute to society through their social awareness and motivation to succeed. As a school being classified as low socioeconomic status, we have many community partnerships and outreach to parents to create an environment where students are most likely to make growth both academically and socially.
My students love to come to school and view our classroom as their extended family. We have created a wonderful class community where students are comfortable sharing their thoughts and taking academic risks in order to further their knowledge. The children in my classroom oftentimes come from families who are unable to provide for their basic needs and give them the attention they need and desire. As a class, we make sure that each student is provided for, appreciated, and cared about.
