This is something new that I am working on incorporating into my classroom, and your project helped me to strengthen my efforts.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher in an urban setting, I am constantly striving to continue my own education regarding racial and social justice. While I am able to make these strides on my own time, I found that I am learning the most from my own students! Through novels, such as the ones donated to me, I am able to facilitate conversations regarding race, gender, and equality. Much of our reading is done solo on Chromebooks, but we are working on facilitating read alouds and small group reading! It's a slow process, as we have to first identify the student's individual reading levels.\r\n\r\nMany of my more independent students are enjoying reading the new novels! In particular, graphic novels have become an all accessible way for students to take in new cultures and experiences while reading at their level.\r\n\r\nI cannot thank you enough for providing my students with necessary materials to broaden their horizons.","fullyFundedDate":1750891576754,"projectUrl":"project/racial-social-justice-through-sel/9404150/","projectTitle":"Racial & Social Justice Through Sel","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Emma Hurst","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10050782_orig.jpg?crop=3264,3264,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749478518236","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10050782"},{"teacherId":10050782,"projectId":9398747,"letterContent":"I cannot express my gratitude for your contributions to this project. Thanks to your support, every student in my English 12 class now has their very own composition notebook, as well as the necessary pencils and markers to fully engage in their reading journeys. With these resources in hand, students have been able to maintain daily reading journals, allowing them to reflect on their thoughts and insights as they read a variety of culturally responsive novels. The act of journaling has become an essential part of their learning process, providing both a creative and personal outlet for their evolving understanding of the texts.\r\nWhen my students first received the new notebooks and supplies, their faces lit up with excitement. Many shared how much more meaningful their journals felt now that they had a dedicated space for their reflections. The notebooks have allowed them to take pride in their work, with some even decorating the covers to give them a personal touch. One student commented that having a notebook made her feel \"like a real writer,\" which was incredibly powerful for me to hear. It's these small moments of inspiration that remind me of the lasting impact these resources can have on their confidence as readers and writers.\r\nLooking ahead, my students are diving deeper into their current reading projects, where they will use their journals not only to reflect but also to create thoughtful essays on the themes and characters in the novels they are studying. The next step is for students to take their journal entries and turn them into more formal writing assignments that will demonstrate their critical thinking and growth. They are eager to continue using the materials you helped provide, and I am confident that these resources will continue to fuel their academic development and foster a lifelong love for reading. Thank you for being a part of this transformative experience for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1728767666023,"projectUrl":"project/building-strong-readers/8826186/","projectTitle":"Building Strong Readers!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Horton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8893470_orig.jpg?crop=1284,1284,x0,y612&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727793386044","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8893470"},{"teacherId":7236057,"projectId":8876600,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the generous materials provided for our basketball program. The practice jerseys, basketballs, basketball cart, agility ladder, cones, parachute, and jump ropes have significantly impacted our practices, games, and overall development of our student-athletes. This letter outlines how these resources have been implemented and the remarkable benefits they have brought to our players and program as a whole.\r\nFrom the very first practice utilizing these new materials, the transformation was evident. The practice jerseys created a more organized and professional environment, making team scrimmages more effective and structured. Players were easily identified by team, allowing us to simulate game scenarios with greater accuracy. This not only improved the flow of our practices but also helped students develop their situational awareness, teamwork, and communication skills.\r\nThe basketballs and cart revolutionized our ability to run efficient drills. With a sufficient supply of high-quality basketballs, every player had the opportunity to participate fully without downtime. The cart ensured easy access and storage, saving valuable practice time. Players were able to focus on skill-building drills like shooting, dribbling, and passing, while also enjoying the ability to challenge themselves and push their limits.\r\nThe agility ladder, cones, and parachute added a dynamic layer to our conditioning routines. The agility ladder allowed us to focus on footwork and coordination, key elements in developing quick and agile athletes. Players enjoyed competing against one another while working on drills that improved their speed and precision. The cones were instrumental in setting up obstacle courses and drills that encouraged sharp directional changes, further enhancing reaction times and balance. The parachute became a favorite among players, as it added resistance training to their sprints, building strength and endurance in a fun and engaging way.\r\nJump ropes played a crucial role in fostering endurance, rhythm, and cardiovascular health. They became a staple warm-up tool, enabling players to prepare their bodies for intense practices and games. These tools encouraged students to take ownership of their physical fitness while also emphasizing the importance of conditioning as part of their athletic development.\r\nDuring games, the impact of these resources was clear. Our athletes displayed improved coordination, speed, and teamwork. The confidence gained from consistent practice with these tools translated into more composed and effective gameplay. Whether it was executing set plays, communicating on defense, or handling high-pressure situations, the skills honed through our enhanced practices shone brightly during competition.\r\nBeyond physical development, the new materials instilled a sense of pride and commitment among our players. They felt supported and valued, which boosted their morale and motivated them to work harder. The resources also allowed us to create a more inclusive environment where every player had the chance to participate fully and grow.\r\nIn conclusion, the materials provided have been transformative for our basketball program. They have not only elevated the quality of our practices and games but have also fostered personal growth, teamwork, and a strong sense of community among our students. On behalf of our athletes and coaching staff, thank you for your invaluable support in making this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1729449215635,"projectUrl":"project/north-division-high-school-girls-basketb/8876600/","projectTitle":"North Division High School Girls Basketball","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Watts","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7236057"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_75370","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":389,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":91,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.8,"schoolId":75370,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about North Division Charter High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"North Division Charter High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/milwaukee-public-schools/genesis-school-of-business/75370"}
