They planned and created miniature buildings out of recyclable boxes that they covered in paper. They used tissue paper, pom poms, modeling clay, gravel, sandpaper, and other repurposed recyclables to create the city of their dreams! Kids collaborated with others, problem solved, and persevered through challenges while working through the engineering design process. \r\n\r\nThis quickly became an all time favorite project for my second and third graders. They love to build, make, and create. And for them to be able to innovate with a variety of resources we don't normally use was a dream come true. It is amazing what an impact matching bins and uniform storage can make! \r\n\r\nThese materials have made it so much easier for my students to independently find their materials and put them away. Having bins all the same size means there is no confusion over which lid belongs to which bin or where the bins can be stored so they fit on shelves. This project has allowed my incoming first grade students to quickly identify their materials and independently put them away after using. \r\n\r\nThe new whiteboards have also been a great addition to the classroom so students can practice their phonics and math skills on clean boards with no leftover marks from previous classes that won't erase.
