By equipping us with a state-of-the-art thermal imaging drone, Samsung has enabled our students to pinpoint severe heat loss in homes across the East Hill neighborhood. This technology acts as the vital spark for a broader community solution: once a home is identified as needing repairs, we connect the resident with a free home energy audit, which subsequently unlocks local rebates and financial incentives to make energy-saving upgrades accessible. Through this grant, Samsung is actively reducing utility strain in our town while giving our students a direct, hands-on role in civic and environmental stewardship.\r\n\r\nThe speed with which our students have warmed to this new technology has been inspiring to watch. What initially felt like daunting, specialized equipment quickly became a seamless extension of their classroom learning. They dove headfirst into flight operations, pre-flight safety checks, and thermal data analysis with remarkable enthusiasm and confidence. What the team finds most exciting is the visual reveal of the technology in action—watching real-time aerial feeds transform standard neighborhood rooftops into vivid, color-coded heat maps on their monitors.
