Thanks to you, I've been able to procure ballet shoes and materials which have impacted 40-50 children for After School Dance. We can't wait for our performance in April!\r\n\r\nAs someone who worked for a ballet company for 13 years in Education and Community Engagement, I'm very used to having to \"prove my worth\" to donors to fund what I believe is essential for young people. I was one of those kids who really needed dance as a way of dealing with life. It has always centered me and has made me tune out life's problems and focus on something positive, powerful, and meaningful. I've always focused my career in serving students who need access to dance This time, it didn't feel hard to prove anything! You just understood the importance of this arts experience and made it happen immediately! The good news is I can re-use most of these materials to impact future students. I orginally had planned for the after school Rock Club to be only 12 students. However, we had a 22 students sign up and more wanting to join. Due to the amount of materials I had, I could only let five more in. I am hoping to do this club again in the Fall. \r\n\r\nThe idea for an after school rock club came out of seeing how my students gravitated towards my rock collection in my office. My rocks are always one of the first things kids want to hold and look at when we are talking. I also bring rocks in my baggie of sensory items when I am working with students around the school. In addition, my own children love rocks and we have done everything from mining rocks and breaking geodes to tumbling rocks and holding actual fossils. My hope with this club was to give students at my school the opportunity to be able to have these experience with rocks and minerals\r\n\r\nThe Rock Club spanned six weeks and included a variety of hands-on-activities. We played rock identification Bingo the first week and learned about the different types of rocks.. The second week we made epsom salt crystals and learned about how different types of crystals forms. The third week each child got to break their own geode and take home their treasure. The fourth week we sifted to sand and learned to identify a variety of rocks and gemstones. The fifth week each child mined their our own mystery gemstones. Finally, the sixth week students learned about the many ways gems are used and they were able to make their own gemstone jewelry. Every week students were enthusiastic to learn and participate in activities. They were all very sad at our last class, but each one of them were present with a \"Future Geologist\" award to encourage them to keep exploring the world of rocks and gems.","fullyFundedDate":1739217385561,"projectUrl":"project/we-all-rock-using-rocks-minerals-to-b/9094073/","projectTitle":"We All Rock! Since incorporating cause-and-effect toys into our Life Skills classroom, we have observed growth in our students' cognitive and motor development. The immediate and clear feedback from these toys—the movement, the sounds—has helped them grasp the fundamental concept of cause and effect, an essential skill for independence. Many students who previously struggled with engagement are now actively participating in activities, demonstrating improved focus, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.\r\n\r\nBeyond individual development, these toys have fostered greater social interaction within our classroom. Students are learning to take turns, share experiences together, and express their preferences more effectively.
