When students enter the classroom each morning and see new supplies or new posters made with these supplies, they announce to their friends what they see and what they predict they will learn about. The families of my students have even relayed that our scholars remember what we have learned and share what supplies they were able to use.\r\n\r\nThe figurines have been utilized in our themed units. Some supplies from this fundraiser are used every day, such as paper, markers, and Play-Doh. Some supplies are used depending on our theme. Our class of artistic scholars is going to thoroughly enjoy the varied markers you helped get in their hands. \r\n It has been an amazing result in seeing the pride each student takes with the careful art they are able to add to their academic tasks. Things like getting printed letters on a spelling activity looking legible have been largely improved thanks to their ability to use markers responsibly. The creativity in illustrations of vocabulary words have been examples of what students seem to be taking pride in. Their increased confidence and the increase in the items each wonderful student is able to have pride in, has made me prideful and proud of each of them. \r\n Without a doubt, excitement filled the air as students first were able to see their gifts and what they each will be able to use on a daily basis. Further, the trait of being and practicing being responsible continue within our room. As students are taking such pride in their markers, they have shown extra careful care to keep their valuable marking tools safe and secure (in a supplied box or bag). Our fourth grade scholars are so excited to be able to read engaging, relevant, and colorful articles from our Scholastic News issues. \r\n \r\n With current events on the minds of our eager readers and explorers, being able to see color photos (with most not watching the evening news), brings the world they are hearing about right into the forefront of their enthusiastic minds. For example, the wildfires and how animals at adoption agencies are impacted. Our surrounding city was one of the locations which flew in pets for adoption. They were pets that were previously at the human societies (prior to California's devasting fires). That gave the students a relevant community feel of support. In this case, the students could read and discover about the sheltering areas able to have space for families to reunite with their household pets, while our area could reap the benefit of pets being able to be adopted with new forever homes. The Scholastic News does a terrific job of bringing issues and events such as this to be shared with our young readers. I am a big fan of the games and well-phrased questions the publication offer.
