(EVERY day, no exaggeration!)\r\n\r\nTransition to Kindergarten (TTK) with 4-year-olds is all about learning social skills, school routines, and foundational academic concepts through play and exploration. Of course, that means we make a lot of art! Some of our favorite projects that we've made using the construction paper and cardstock that you helped to provide include finger painted fall trees, color mixed pumpkins, spooky bubble painted cauldrons, and most recently, New Year folded paper fireworks. Projects like these give students the opportunity to express their creativity, explore materials, and have fun while practicing essential skills like following directions, using materials safely, and sharing with others. The paper from this project has helped to bring more art time into our classroom and has made it possible for students to make their creations exactly as they imagine.\r\n\r\nThe large chart paper that you helped to provide is used during lessons to capture and organize student thinking and to create learning materials that are large enough for all students to access. One of our students' favorite routines is reading our weekly poems which are written on the large chart paper. The class spend the first few days of the week reading the poem together. We look for letters and words we know, identify rhyming words, and even practice reading skills like visualizing, sequencing, and inferring. Later in the week, student are excited to take turns using the pointer to read out loud to the class themselves. Looking around and seeing our classroom walls fill up with so much evidence of learning and participation from even our youngest students in school is so impressive.\r\n\r\nThe work we are doing in our classroom would not be possible without your support for this project. You should have seen the unboxing. Teachers were ecstatic! Your contributions have extended learning for our students with meaningful projects that support reading, writing, and math!\r\n Many of our students lack the resources at home for exploratory art projects and crafts that are common among their more affluent peers. Thanks to you, Windows of Hope, we are able to provide some of these experiences for our kids. This fall, we have coupled their creativity with writing projects, reading response, and math practice. Students are excited to pour their creativity in, but most importantly, they are ENGAGED. \r\n It has been fun to watch students fill with pride as they show their friends and families our wall displays full of student art.
